PORTFOLIO
GOALS:
Listen and speak English
Reflect on own proficiency and learning
Provide basis for evaluation and oral exam
FORMAT:
Collected reports on listening/speaking experiences, 1-2 typed pages per
activity, informative TOC.
CAVEATS:
Ø
You must complete the Reading Assignment and four more
options.
Ø
Your write-up should be
brief (it provides a record of activity and to provide proof of work)
Ø
You may not recycle work
across semesters or years
Ø
You should hand in monthly
segments of portfolios for feedback
Ø Credit will be given for the content of the audio/oral activity rather
than written English
Ø
You must type your portfolio: hand-written portfolios
will not be accepted
Ø
You must use the exact template portfolio sent to you
via e-mail
Ø
You must make two copies of your portfolio
Ø
You must bring your portfolio with you to the oral
exam in June
Ø
You must hand in your portfolio to your teacher in
week 10 of the semester

You may NOT include any pictures in your portfolio
Remember, your portfolio is a
record of your work. Do
not include any work that is copied from another source. Plagiarism may lead to an automatic failure.
READING
ASSIGNMENT (OBLIGATORY) (Both
Semesters)
Read
the following two of the books on the list provided in English.
You may present on one of the books in class.
If you do present on one of the books in class, write a presentation
outline and include this in your portfolio.
If you do not present on the books in class, research and compile the
story/history/background of the author.
1-INTERVIEW
OPTION (semester 1)
Conduct
an interview in English with a native speaker a)Prepare your questions in
advance and take detailed notes during the interview.
b)Write
a transcript or give a detailed account of the answers to your questions.
c)Give
your personal reaction to your interviewee’s comments, and to the assignment as
a language learning exercise.
2-SELF-SPEAKING
OPTION (both semesters)
a)
Record yourself talking in English (subject material
may be based on radiodiaries/soundportraits)

Transcribe your oral work

Write an analysis of your pronunciation, grammar and
fluency

3-AUDIO-VISUAL

Watch a film in English at the cinema

Find a review about the film (press/internet)

Write about whether you agree or disagree with the

Watch a video or DVD in English

Transcribe in English the dialogue of a short scene

Choose 5 words or expressions used in the scene. Define them and then explain their importance
in the film.
iii-MUSIC

Choose one singer and three of their songs
b)
Analyse the rhyme scheme and transcribe the rhyming
vowels in one verse of each of the three songs.

Compare the three songs and comment on the difference
between words which are sung and spoken

Interview an English teacher about their choice of
career, their experiences, their training, pedagogical views
