Preparing audio materials
AUDIO SOURCE
1. Select an audio text on
internet radio (npr, bbc, etc). 3 minutes
is an absolute maximum, less is probably better.
2. Record your text with Goldwave.
a) create
a file with the New file button: choose CD quality, 44000 bits, and 10 minutes'
length
b) use
the red button to record. It is easier
to record a whole audiofile and edit after than to
try to stop and start while recording. Make
sure you note the start and finish times of the section you want.
c) alter
volume through Goldwave control panel (you should be
on mixer/mélangeur) or on computer (sound -
properties - click on recording and make sure the mic
is muted)
d) save
the file
3. Transcribe the relevant
section, being careful to note the internet address (http://bbc.co.etc) and the
start and finish times for your section (you can read this off your RealPlayer
counter).
4. Edit your wav file.
a) DEL will delete what you
have highlighted
b) TRIM will delete what is
not highlighted
c) EQU will fix a file
recorded too high or low
WRITTEN MATERIALS
1. You will need a
transcript for every recording to be used in class or for exams.
Be sure to note the source
