How to Use Creative Wave

Creative Wave is a program on all the computers in the Multimedia Labs at the Fac de Lettres.  You can use this program to record yourself in English!

Ten Easy Steps to Using this Program – Really, it IS easy!

1.         Open the Creative Wave Program by clicking on the icon for it on your desktop ("desktop" means the first blue screen you normally see when you come into the labs, with all the little icons over on the left side; like LogoLab).

It appears that for the moment in 167, there is no icon on the desktop.  If it isn't there, you can open Creative Wave by clicking on "Demarrer"; "Programmes", then "Creative", then "Creative Wave Studio" (twice).

2.         Put on the headphones – make sure they are the ones that are attached to your computer!

3.         Now you have a new blank file, and you can make a recording.  Click on the red round button icon and you are recording.  We suggest making a test first -  say whatever you want into the microphone.

4.         When you are finished, click on the "stop" button.  These look similar to the icons in LogoLab.

5.         Then click on the "play" button.  How does it sound?  You can play around with the volume if you want.  Also be aware of how close your microphone is to your mouth – sometimes it helps if you push it under your chin a little.

6.         Once you've got the volume right, you are ready to make your real recording.  Same process – red record button, stop; play to hear it again.

7.         To SAVE your recording:  Click on "File/Fichier", then "Save As/Enregistre Sous" from the drop down menu up in the upper left corner.

8.         Search for a folder called "Transfert167" or "Transfert170" – depends which lab you are in.  Your lecteur shoud have a sub-folder set up with their name.  Save your recording under your name in your lecteur's folder.

9.         Back out of the folder and open it up again – try to listen to it just to make sure it works.  You can always copy over it too if you don't like it or something.

10.      Tell your lecteur it's there so they can hear it!!!
