Oral English classes

This section of the site describes the specific classes you may be teaching and coordinating.
Use the sidebar to find the level and programme you are looking for.

You will teach oral English in three different types of class:
  1. Comprehension: listening classes
  2. TP Oral (travaux pratiques à l'oral): speaking classes
  3. Labo: pronunciation and internet for oral language learning

Comprehension
classes focus on listening comprehension.

We use audiocassettes (yes, I know) and CDs of mainly authentic language which students listen to, answer questions on, and discuss.   Some LCE comprehension classes are held in the language labs (traditional and multimedia).

The teacher gives strategies for listening and note-taking, and provides input on vocabulary and grammar.

We teach listening comprehension only in first and second year, in both LCE and LEA programmes.

TP Oral is a speaking class where students discuss topics related to the contemporary English-speaking world.

These classes often involve students giving presentations to the class and leading post-presentation activities designed to encourage class participation.

The role of the teacher is to facilitate discussion, involve all class members in discussion, and to provide feedback on their pronunciation, grammar and vocabulary errors.

We teach speaking classes at all levels: all the students you see take speaking, and third and fourth year students have only speaking classes.

Labo or lab sessions take place in the language laboratory, funnily enough, either traditional audio labs which use audiocassettes  or multimedia labs with video playback and internet access.

The focus is on pronunciation, with elements of listening comprehension and use of the internet for oral language learning.

The teacher is required to tackle phonetics at an elementary level, and to monitor students' independent work on pronunciation or other oral language activities.

Lab classes are for English specialists (LCE) in first and second year only.
