Here are a few places you may need to go. The tools are free to download and use unless otherwise stated. There's a calendar for the current semester with holidays at the bottom. Internet service providers If you're planning on getting internet at home, you can do worse than these addresses; you'll probably need a France Telecom line to set up your subscription. 9online alice Internet audio Radio sites NPR BBC Audio players RealPlayer is the best player for the above radio sites. Make sure you download the free player. Audio recording Goldwave Digital Audio Editor is a shareware programme which you can download and use free for a certain time. Internet news Google news Ananova news French help with spelling (and gender) and conjugation Working on the Oral English site Writing web pages Mozilla is part of the Netscape family, offering alternatives to Microsoft for browsing etc. The Mozilla composer, located on the bottom left of the browser window is our tool for creating web pages. Mozilla 1.6 should meet your needs. File transfer protocol To copy, edit, and replace existing web pages, you may need WS-FTP LE 95, a free programme available to the education community. Personal computing If you don't already own one, I suggest investing in an intelligent stick to allow you to transfer information from computer to computer. (There are eight of you sharing your office computer, you may need to use the one in 304, and no doubt you will want to use the BS and other university computers, unless you have your own. If you are wondering whether to bring your own computer over, bring it!) This device stores 128 or 256 MB, works off a USB port (the same one you run your digital camera on), reads and writes more quickly than your hard-drive, and is both smaller and more reliable than a disquette.
