Getting
started
Julie Alexander, a returning lectrice, has prepared an information pack which contains advice on administrative formalities, getting settled in Nice, and arriving at the University in September. This practical guide should address many of your most pressing concerns. Your contract starts 1 September 2004 and technically you should sign it on that day in the Personnel Office at the university. Our first meeting is on Monday 6 September 2004. You will have exam duties that week as well as preparation for the start of classes, so you need to be settled in Nice with most of your paperwork in order by then. The provisional calendar is here. Administrative formalities Paperwork needs to be done for the English Department, through Marie-Noëlle Zeender and Geneviève Chevallier. You will also need to contact the personnel office in Humanities. When you arrive in Nice, you will need several days to get your house in order, from signing your contract at the university, opening a bank account, renting an apartment, to satisfying immigration and social security requirements. Living arrangments in Nice Julie has a number of leads in her packet. Otherwise contact her and Tom, the other returning lecteur, about finding a place to stay and/or crash space when you arrive in autumn. The other members of last year's team may also have advice, and you may wish to contact other members of the new team to share an apartment. Their address are all listed in contacts. Arriving at the University Our first meeting is scheduled for Monday 6 September 2004 at 10am in the Salle des Professeurs. At this meeting, we will show you round campus,
introduce the programme, and set your teaching schedule and
responsibilities for the year. We will also give you your exam
timetable for invigilation/proctoring of listening exams, grading
sessions, and oral exams for the September resits which begin Wednesday
8 September.
