Talking to an artist

In one of those magical Christmas villages, in « Le vieux Cannet », we met an artist who shared her passion with us. Laure Bourgeois is not a professional painter; she has never taken any painting lessons. However she felt the need to express herself in one way or the other. Very recently, she discovered painting, which she had never tried, and this how the story began.

Although she only started to paint in March, she has already given birth to 20 marvelous « babies », as she likes to refer to her works since she is fully satisfied when she achieves to give birth to a living emotion through her paintings. She uses exclusively acrylic, mainly because of its flexibility, and she more specifically gives life to her works thanks to iridescent colors and a play of lights. She wants to cultivate the striking uniqueness of her paintings and that is why she doesn't want to take lessons; moved by the discovery of new techniques and the flow of her inspiration, she lives her passion to the most and the result is splendid. The greatness of the production is given by the sincerity it displays. The two main figures that inspire her are the artists Farel and Valadié.

Answering to our question, she advised any person who is attracted to art of any kind to go and have a try. The feeling she described us is very close to the notion of catharsis in theatre; creating something offers evasion to your spirit, brings you in a foreign world far from your everyday life and cleanses you from too numerous and confused emotions.

This day off reminded us of the richness of our neighboring villages; none of us should forget that culture is very close to us and that discovering interesting artists does not mean going far… Furthermore, special events like Christmas market should be promoted because we need to share joyful events and the discovery of our region although, with the development of towns, we tend to forget this notion of proximity.

So, a happy new year to you all!   And don’t be afraid of living your passions…
