Music review Cynthia, Olivia, Caroline, Henrik, Julien Once upon a time a city called Nice where nothing was really like everywhere else. Musical news did not go against this established order. Whereas several groups increased, the number of concert halls remained one of the lowest in all the country. Moreover, Nice the 5th largest city in France was not equipped with a large capacity concert hall. There was really an infrastructure deficiency. Fortunately, the situation has changed … In “Vieux-Nice”, more and more pubs have developed the concept of live concerts. The City Hall finally launched the ambitious project of a “Zenith” (called “Palais Nikaia and unveiled in 2000) which shall allow to greet the biggest concerts. A lot of students associations (like “le Foyer” in the Fac de Lettres) are organizing more and more concerts with young talents. Seen its roots, it was no small matter. Indeed, a lot of students contributed to its development, and they did it by themselves. They brought material such as coffee machine or stereo system. Profits coming from concerts allowed « graphartists » to repaint the room and permitted people to rebuild the bar. The staff of the foyer is made up of volunteers, who generally are students. We can meet them during the day, but also when concerts occur in the evening. Besides, these musical events were born thanks to motivated members astonished by the lack of concerts halls through the town. Here, people can listen to all kinds of music. In addition to music, there are photo exhibitions, lectures and people are welcome to suggest other ideas. So if you want to enter a warm and friendly place, come to the foyer. Here are the next appointments: 07 January 04 : special night : independent carnival with the bands “la Fanfare des diables” and “les Bosinaires de Nissa” ( Batucada and samba from Brazil ) 14 January 04 : Laoh (pop rock) with maybe in guest Amadeus Tapioka (rock 90’) 15 January 04 : special night organized by the association “Grain de Soleil” in aid of a project of public health in Cameroon. They will greet the band “Alerte a Skalibu” Admission charge of 2 Euro in order to help the association’s project. 20 January 04 : Big night “Sound System Ragga” with “Bousin Son Sistema”, MC Doc Joseph and Pepido (one of the few female Mc in the region). Concerning February 04, nothing is sure but there will be: Ska Punk, Drum’n’Bass, Disco Funk …
