Advanced courses This section describes the oral language training for English majors who are preparing for competitive national exams (concours) to become secondary school teachers of English in France. Teaching is the traditional career choice of students enrolled in LCE (littératures et civilisations étrangères) programmes, and students with a degree in English (licence) often go on to sit these entrance exams. To prepare students, the English Department runs advanced classes in English-language literature, the civilisation (or socio-political history) of the English-speaking world, focusing on the specific literary works and historical periods on the exam programme each year. There are also classes in English linguistics and French/English translation, oral English, phonetics, and didactics, which also figure on the exam programme. Details of oral classes in the different programmes can be found by clicking here: Agrégation (high school, lycée) CAPES (junior high/middle school, collège)
